Episode 1: The new world

Narrator (voice over); *year 2020 appears on screen*, project “new world” was released to the public, they told us it would make our lives better, we would be happier, and the world would be different from as we knew it today. It has been adapted to fit they way that they want me live my life. millions of people experiencing the same life, programed inside of us.  My memories of what life used to be completely gone. Wiped. The urge of finding out who i was still lingered in my mind. I knew i had to escape. i miss them, my friends, my familiy. its all coming back"

Statement of Intent.

Introduction:
 My sci-fi drama, which is called Break The System, is about a girl raised in a world where life choices are decided from the day we are born. Things such as careers, occupations, even the person you marry. These things are to be decided from when a chip is planted into you from only a few months old. My story focuses on a young girl feels that she is trapped, suffocated by the world she is living in. This constant feeling of engagement pushes her to try break the mould, she does not want to, she wants to live her own life. My mini episode will end on a cliff hanger to make thee audience want more, it will also make them question and ponder over different possible scenarios. My production will be the first two minutes of the “ pilot”


Media Language and Representation:
My short movie will be filmed in 2-4 different locations, I will try to limit the number of locations to avoid overcomplication. The movie will include two main characters, the girl trying to be free and her friend that advises her to do otherwise. The rest of the people will just be extas or members of the public. I intend to use a non-diegetic voice over  to set a scene during the opening, non diegetic soundtracks will be used also to create tension at some point in the film. Diegetic sounds such as speech will also be in plays from the help of a script. In terms of farmers shots, I will use a variety of angles and shots which allow the audience to gain full understanding along with giving it a professional touch. My character breaks the stereorypes placed in some females, my character puts them in a new light. My character is the protagonist which isn’t very common with a female lead

Audience:
I believe that my story will be suitable for a wide range of people. From infant to adults, this show could bring a lot of excitement from it scenes. I would say it is a more family friendly version of the famous series called “black mirror” on Netflix. In each episode of black mirror, it focuses on different scents where technology is more advanced than it is today. I hope to make my episode as brilliant as one from black mirror. I believe that my show will be quite familiar to audiences as it would be filmed in some recognisable places. My mini episode will have some audiences question whether this could happen later on in the future. Technology is advancing day by day and with us being a society heavily influenced by social media and phones, it could be a matter of time unti we are completely controlled by special intelligence

Stranger Things: Goodbye Mike

Stranger things are set in the 80's on a girl with powers called Eleven, she escaped from a lab where they would test on her and others children with different powers. She becomes friends with 5 new people. One of these friends is abducted by a weird looking life form called a "Demogorgon" who has trapped him in an alternate world called the "upside down". Eleven along with the others try and save their friend.

In the scene shown, the Demogorgon tries to attack mike, Lucas and Dustin. They are vulnerable and have no true understanding of how to stop it from harming them. Suddenly, Eleven bursts into the room and pins the 13foot being to the wall with her powers, killing it. The lights frantically flicker. A portal like hole forms, Eleven walks through and faintly say the word " goodbye mike". Following Propps theory, it is likely that there will be a resolution to this new arising issue. Although the Demogorgon issue was resolved, Eleven leaving is another issue.

Stranger Thing's subvert stereotypes by putting a female as the hero and the mail characters as the helpers or donors. This is different as women aren't usually playing a strong and dominant character. The age of these characters are also important, children are usually portrayed as clueless and vulnerable, however, in this programme, the children are the ones who save the day.

The Demogorgon and Eleven are a big part of this show, these two characters help it make it known that it is apart of the SyFy genre. The flickering lights create a sense of suspense in the room. The physical featured of this creature in front of her makes this programme fit into the Syfy genre as aliens and mythical creatures are usually associated with science fiction. The main character, Eleven, has the power of telekinesis. Her unique powers also add to the science fiction genre.

Stranger Things offers entertainment and diversion. It is set in the 80s, this is significant as it offers the older views a sense of nostalgia as it brings them back to a world that they once grew up in

Humans: Series 1 Trailer

This programme is set in a world where robots are way more advanced as they are today. The robots are very human looking. They were created to assist humans in everyday life. In the video, a contact is to be signed in order to acquire one. Even those these are supposed to make life easier, some of the humans are against it. In this trailer, you see how these robots develop as they gain more human characteristics. This causes disruption. I think that the issue will be resolved at the surface, but deeper issues will still remain

Although there are a number of relevant characters in this programme, such as the robots and humans themselves, I don't believe this follows Propp's theory (hero, donor, assistance etc) so it is hard to link the two.

The music featured in this trailer is quite fast paced in the beginning, which builds up the intensity and creates suspense. Along with the coloured eyes, the stiff movements and monotone voices makes it clear to the viewers that they are robots without it even needing to be said. These factors communicate to the audience that this is Syfy.

In terms of Blumler & Katz, this show offers entertainment and diversion as it takes them away from their regular lifestyle but incorporates things that they would usually see in their personal lives. It could be argued that this programme offers surveillance and information. Technology is becoming more advanced and robots similar to the ones shown are becoming more common. This show gives an insight into what could potentially happen in the future

Doctor Who, Amy Ponds meets Amelia Pond

In this episode of Doctor Who, Amy Pond (played by Karen Gillan) comes across a younger version of herself. In what appears to be a museum, young Amy Ponds walks around slowly, at this moment she is alone. Being an inquisitive child, she places her hand on a large cube in the centre of the museum. A bright light comes out from within this cube along with Karen Gillan. It is shown to the audience that this cube is quite important as Amy watches a video mentioning how it has appeared through history, which adds to the story. Both older and younger Amy's are encountered by a "darlek" that has the intention of hurting them. The doctor comes just in time to rescue the two.

Some aspects of Propps theory applies to this clip. Although he only appears at the end of the clip, Dr Who would be seen as the hero, this is because he rescues older and younger Amy. Older Amy would be considered as the "helper" the one who assists the hero. in this case, she is the one that assists the doctor. It isn't clear yet, but younger Amy could potentially be the "donor" the person that gives something of value to the hero to help him along his journey. The darlek is quite obviously the villain as it is trying to harm them.

Throughout this video, it is very clear that the genre of this film is Syfy. This is shown from the use of bright white and green neon lights. Time travel is the main theme running throughout this episode along with other Dr Who episodes. Time travel a big part of the Syfy genre, so that is another indication that this programme fits into it.

This show, along with other Syfy's offer audiences entertainment and diversion. This is because it takes them away from the real world and lets them experience something extraordinary, something that they would never experience in their own lives.
