As technology has grew, the ability to access the internet has also increased, allowing people to become more independent meaning they do not need to rely on certain media products as much as they originally did.
One industry that has seen a huge change is the music industry. Before the development on technology and the internet, people would purchase their favourite artists' albums whether its via CD or on iTunes. This allowed artists to easily make money as their material was being bought. However, nowadays people find other ways to get hold of artists music such as illegal downloads, music apps, and streaming.
This has made music more easier and simpler for society, as we have discovered cheaper and accessible ways to listen to the music that we enjoy the most. The internet has also allowed certain opportunities for regular people. It has become easier for people to share their talents online allowing then to be open to new experiences if they are spotted by the right people.
Although the development of the internet has had a slight negative impact on music companies and artists. Seeing as people rarely purchase music anymore, these companies a struggling to make profit and are losing a large amount of money. This can cause these companies to stop producing music for certain artists meaning that the public will not be able to enjoy the music they love which is a big negative
Another industry that has been impacted by the development of the internet is the film and TV industry. Companies such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, have allowed the public to watch and stream movies and videos from an affordable price, meaning that the public would be more likely to use these websites/applications.
However, this will have a negative impact on the producers of film and TV programmes as people will be reluctant to purchase tickets to watch films in the cinema or watch things that are on the TV. This could possibly cause film companies and producers of TV programmes to stop making these things as they will not be making as much money as they originally did. Meaning that viewers will no longer be able to watch the films and movies they enjoy the most which is a disadvantage
The last industry that has changed is the news industry. Now that nearly everyone is in possession of a phone, it has now become easier for people to capture different events on their phone; such as explosions, attacks, and other crazy things that happen in the world of today, the sharing of these events on social media allows people to be updated with current events in the matter of minutes, this is a big alternative to watching the news on TV as it is more convenient and its a good option for people that don't like watching the news.
However, the fact that the internet has offered many peoples chance to share means that all the content might not be reliable, it could be untrustworthy and biased. This is a disadvantage as this will give people the wrong information and could cause people to respond in a negative way depending on how they take the information that they have just found out. This could lead to outbursts and arguments. So although its a new way of easily seeing the current events in our world it does have some downfalls.
Overall, the internet has introduced us to many fascinating things. It has allowed us to be more independent, we now do not need to fully rely on certain industries, which is great. however in the long run, the things that we love such as music, films and programmes could be cut short due to the insufficient funds
